WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO RECYCLE

Steel, polyurethane foam and cotton/sisal fibre
Using recycled steel to make new steel enables reductions that are vital to our environment, such as 86% in air pollution and 76% in water pollution. EU figures indicate that using recycled raw materials, including metals, cuts CO2 emissions by some 200 million tonnes every year. Mattresses pose a significant burden on landfills. Each mattress occupies approximately 23 cubic feet of landfill space and does not degrade as quickly as other domestic waste. By recycling mattresses we are contributing to a real reduction on the ever increasing pressure on landfill sites across the United Kingdom. Mattresses are manually stripped down and separated into their recyclable parts, which include springs, polyurethane foam, cotton fibre and sisal fibre.

Wood
1.6 billion cubic metres (m3) of timber is harvested worldwide. Of this approximately 50 million m3 is used in the UK annually. Each year up to 420,000 tonnes of waste wood is produced by households, or deposited at civic amenity sites in the UK. . Unsustainable patterns of production and consumption is a major cause of the continued deterioration of the global environment. By recycling bed bases and extracting the soft wood within them, we are actively reducing the amount of perfectly recyclable wood that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. Wood recycling is the process of turning waste timber into usable products, such as mulch, chipboard and Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF).
